EV charging

Qmerit certified EV charger installation, with the panel checked first.

Home and workplace charging across the Brazos Valley. We confirm the panel can carry the load before anything gets mounted, and we tell you upfront if it cannot.

Chapter 01

Qmerit certified, which is a real and checkable thing.

Qmerit is the certification that covers EV charger installation, and we hold it. It is one of exactly three credentials this company claims, alongside Texas Electrical Contractor licence TECL #31567 and being named in Expertise.com's Best Electricians in College Station in 2021.

We mention that it is one of three deliberately. An electrician's credentials are a short list or they are not credentials, and a page that stacks up badges is usually padding a thin one.

The panel decides the job, so the panel gets looked at first.

A charger is a large continuous load added to a service that was sized before anybody was charging a car at home. Whether your existing panel can carry it is not a detail to be discovered halfway through, it is the question the whole job turns on.

So that is the first thing established on the visit. If the panel has capacity, the install is straightforward. If it does not, you hear that before any work starts rather than partway through, along with what an upgrade would actually involve.

Some of the signs that a panel is already at its limit are visible without any tools: breakers tripping under ordinary load, lights dimming when something large kicks in, or simply no free spaces left to land a new circuit.

Chapter 03

A dedicated circuit, run properly, then commissioned.

Confirm capacity. Run a dedicated circuit to where you actually park, which is not always where it is most convenient to run cable. Mount the unit. Commission it and confirm it is charging as it should before we leave.

Four steps, in that order, and the order matters. Mounting a unit and then discovering the circuit cannot be run cleanly to it is how an install ends up with cable stapled across a garage wall.

Permits and inspections are filed in house, the same as on any other job here.

Both of the walls in these photographs are ours.

The Emporia unit and the Tesla wall connector shown on this site are units we installed and photographed, not catalogue images. We work with whatever hardware you have chosen rather than steering you to one brand.

If you have not chosen yet, that is a reasonable thing to ask about on the call. What the panel can support usually narrows the options more than any feature list does.

Office hours are Mon-Fri 8am-4:30pm, and estimates are free and often same day.
